Ping, Mt. Everest and an Amazing Cause
On March 6th, 2018, Ping was contacted by a customer asking if they could get early access to a device. In the spirit of fairness, we typically don’t grant early access but being it was our beta test and this customer had an “unusual” request, we sent them their Ping.
It seems that this user had a friend leaving to go climb Mt. Everest to raise awareness for Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer. Being concerned for his friend, he wanted a way to track his journey while he was 8,000+ miles away from Everest in Charlotte, NC. Ping’s SOS button could also be helpful if he got into trouble.
To be honest, the Ping team was skeptical that the device would work half-way around the globe, let alone on the rooftop of the world. However, a few days later the pics and emails starting coming in:
Thank you to Raja and his friend for trusting Ping to be a small part of this journey. We strongly recommend to everyone they also support this cause by visiting https://endurance.themmrf.org/2018Everest/SaadUsmani
